Below, our past passenger, Jimmy, kindly shared his engagement story with us. He booked a Somerset hot air balloon ride, choosing the rolling West Country hills as the backdrop for this memorable moment. Why did you choose a hot air balloon for the proposal?
Jimmy: I had always fancied a hot air balloon ride in Somerset, and I knew my partner wanted that also. The thought of floating gently through the air with breathtaking views and the intimacy of this unique space seemed like the perfect venture for a proposal plan. The balloon ride was a great surprise, something that was going to be part of a crescendo of surprises to create an unforgettable day with a story that could be told again and again and would bring smiles to people's faces.

What was going through your mind right before proposing in the hot air balloon?
Jimmy: Just before I popped the important question, I knew this was exactly the right time and place. She was in awe of the whole experience; the whole day was a complete surprise to her, and the balloon ride was part of a series of events to make the day as memorable as possible.

Describe the moment of your romantic hot air balloon proposal.
Jimmy: The surreal feeling of drifting across our beautiful land, with the tranquillity of nature, waking up to the sunrise whilst we were simply floating by, meant there was no better time to get that ring out and hope she said yes! Well, I managed to stutter some words out. Luckily, she understood what I was saying. I was so nervous, not that I didn't think she would say yes, but she still couldn't believe that we were actually in a hot air balloon, so to elevate this further, I think I nearly blew her mind. This was the moment I realised I had succeeded in making this one of the most memorable days ever.

What was the most memorable or unexpected part of your engagement balloon flight in Somerset?
Jimmy: Every moment was just as special as the next. The immersive experience of helping Hugo and his team set the balloon up was a bonus that added to our memories. The bottle of bubbly prepared for the proposal was a nice touch.
One of the memories that we share in our story is when we floated over a garden with a lady standing there in her dressing gown. She was waving up at us, and we waved down. My fiancé shouted down, "Morning," to this lady. She shouted "morning" back; my fiancé then shouted, "I just got engaged," and the lady shouted back, "Congratulations, didn't he do well?" with a thumbs up. We laugh about this every time we tell it. It’s a story for the grandchildren in years to come.
